Not every test that checks your blood alcohol level comes up with accurate results. Police departments use various devices to test your BAC, such as: the Breathalyzer (Smith and Wesson Electronics, Springfield, MA), the Dräger Alcotest (Draeger Safety, Durango, CO), and the BAC Datamaster (National Patent Analytical Systems, Mansfield, OH). Like any manmade device, things go wrong with breath-test equipment, and police operator error is not uncommon. The police department must have these machines calibrated regularly to ensure the results are admissible in court.
